How to homebrew Nintendo Switch in 2020?

Nintendo Switch can be hacked with Xecuter SX Pro or SX OS, Switch FW 9.1.0 arrived for some days, the hacking guide for playing free games and homebrews were also coming out in this article. Right, you will know how to homebrew and play free Switch games on Swich V9.1.0 consoles here.

What is homebrew?

Homebrew applications are custom, user-made software, which haven’t been authorised by Nintendo. This can include save editing tools, games, emulators, and more. Homebrew can be run for free on your Switch as long as you have a "first-generation" system running 9.1.0 or lower, and a USB-C cable.

What is Custom Firmware?

Custom Firmware (“CFW”) enables you to use more advanced hacks that userland homebrew can’t easily do. For instance, installing game modifications with ease. CFW can be set up on any first-generation console on any version (but will require additional tools).

What does this guide install?

This guide has the end goal of taking a completely unmodified Switch from Stock Firmware to Atmosphere Custom Firmware. fusee-gelee is currently the best method of launching Custom Firmware that gives us nearly full control of the system. It utilizes a vulnerability in the bootROM of the first-generation Switch systems, allowing us to send any payload we want to the Switch's recovery mode, instead of only ones that Nintendo have authorized.

What can I do with Custom Firmware?

  • Customize your HOME Menu with user-created themes and splash screens
  • Use “ROM hacks” for games that you own
  • Backup, edit, and restore saves for many games
  • Play games for older systems with various emulators, using RetroArch or other standalone emulators
  • Safely update to the latest system version without fear of losing access to homebrew

What do I need to know before starting?

Before beginning the guide, you must know the risks of Switch hacking: EVERY time you modify your system, there is always the potential for an UNRECOVERABLE brick. They’re rare but still a possibility so make sure you follow ALL directions EXACTLY.
This guide will work on first-generation Switch consoles in all regions on firmware 9.1.0 or below.
You will need one of the following in order to successfully follow this guide:
  • A USB-A to USB-C cable, and a PC
  • A USB-OTG cable, a USB-A to USB-C cable, and an Android device
    • This does not work on every android phone
  • A USB-C cable, and an Android device with a USB-C port
  • A Lightning to USB-C cable, and a jailbroken iOS device
    • This method is not covered by the guide, but you can read more about it at this website
You will also need a micro SD card that is at least 64 gigabytes or larger if you plan on following this guide through the emummc path, which is safer and strongly recommended. If you must use a smaller SD card, it is possible with the sysmmc path, but strongly not recommended.
If everything goes according to plan, you will lose no data and end up with everything that you started with (games, Nintendo Account, saves, etc will be preserved).

Keep your device plugged in and charged throughout the entire process to avoid data loss or damage from an unexpected power-off.

Custom Firmware is not permanent with current methods, and will be unloaded upon rebooting the system.

It is advised that you read the entire guide from start to finish one or more times before actually running through the guide with your system.

Tutorial-Steps to homebrew and play free games on Switch 9.1.0

Step 1: Update the RCM Loader One

You can find the latest update on the manufacturer’s website at: https://www.xkit.xyz/support/.

Once the file is downloaded, you have to extract its contents with software like Winrar. Inside you will find a folder called “IAP” that you simply copy to the root of your RCM Loader previously connected to the PC.

You will then simply disconnect your RCM Loader and reconnect it, the “IAP” folder will simply disappear and your RCM will be up to date.

Step 2: Update the built-in Payloads

The dongle already contains some payloads, but you can also add your own and update the existing ones. The readme.txt contains the date of the last update, as well as the built-in payloads and their color (more on this later).

When you plug the RCM Loader into your PC using the provided microUSB cable, a small 2MB (yes that’s megabyte) USB drive shows up, which you can use to configure the RCM Loader. By default, it includes payloads for Atmosphere (slot 1), ReiNX (slot 2), SX OS (slot 3), and three user slots. Slot 4 has a SX OS knockoff called XK OS installed on mine, though you can easily change it to be something else if you wish.

In each folder is a “payload.bin”, which can be overwritten (even with other payloads, of course). For example, if a new version of Atmosphere appears, you can update this payload.

Step 3: Prepare the software

Download Atmosphère and copy the contents of the folder to the start directory of your Switch microSD card.

Step 4: Launch the CFW on your Switch
Now let’s go to the use of the RCMLoader One, first check that your RCM Loader has the battery by pressing 2 seconds on the “+” button, if a light comes on then it’s ok, if it’s not the case it will be necessary to reload it.

When you charge it, the led will blink white while charging and it will stay solid white when fully charged. (Namely that one hour of charging allows to boot about 1000 times the Switch and the charge is 3 months)

The startup process should be familiar — just plug the jig into the right-hand Joy-Con connector and slide it all the way down, bridging the pins and connecting the dongle. Start the Nintendo Switch by holding down the following keys:[Volume +] and [power button].

Then A vertical menu appears, which you control with the volume buttons and the power button. From the menu, select [Launch]> [Atmosphère] and the console will automatically reboot to the switch’s main menu.

As soon as you select [Album] in the main menu, you will notice that the usual album app does not open, but the HomeBrew Loader (Atmosphere & ReiNX) or the SX interface (SX OS).

Step 5: Play games and homebrews on FW V9.1.0

After enter the hbmenu screen, indicating that the crack is successful. Now you can enjoy homebrews, use “Tinfoil” to install .NSP Switch games to play, if you also want to play .XCI games, you should firstly covert the .XCI to .NSP, then you can play it on your Switch too.

Last but not least, if you don’t want to download .NSP or .XCI games by yourself, you can buy Switch pre-install SD Card from Flashcarda.com we will put any Nintendo Switch games you want in the SD Card you get from us, Our service to SD Cards are.

General FAQ for Nintendo Switch Hack with RCM Loader Usage

In the latest RCM loader one Guide Part 1, we talked about how to install CFW on Nintendo Switch 8.1 and in this post Part 2 we will continue to focus on RCM loader discussion, and answer any questions for this new hacking product. If you hesitate to crack your beloved switch, this blog will help you make the final decision.

FAQ about Xkit RCM loader and hack switch

Is it worth it to crack my Nintendo Switch or install a CFW?

Everyone must answer this question for themselves. Basically, we can only highlight the advantages and disadvantages of installing a CFW.

A Nintendo Switch with CFW is mainly able to play homebrews/applications that are not Nintendo itself. Thus, it is possible to replace missing functions such as a PDF reader, an MP3 player or the emulation of other Retro consoles.

The option of overclocking the graphics processor, the processor and the built-in memory (RAM) is particularly interesting. PC owners will know what it's all about. With the programmed increase in performance, launch more demanding games such as Super Mario Maker 2, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 or Doom smoothly and sometimes even with better graphics. Of course, backups are a popular topic when it comes to CFW files. With the exception of Atmosphere, all available CFW files are able to read backups. We clearly want to distance ourselves from this subject.

If you decide to hack your own console, you should also be aware of the risks involved. Nintendo may not allow access to all Nintendo Online services. The local multiplayer mode remains intact after the ban, but likes to use Nintendo Online to compete with other players around the world.

How to install homebrews on my Nintendo Switch?

The Homebrews for the Switch are mainly offered in .nro format. Copy the file with the extension .nro into the "switch" folder of the startup directory of your microSD card. You will often find in most Homebrews a readme text file that you should always consult. Special measures may need to be taken during installation.

Which homebrews/apps are recommended for the start?

Directly at the beginning, we recommend the installation of the Homebrew App Store. As the name suggests, this is an application store where you can download all homebrews available for the Nintendo Switch and install them directly without a PC.
The following homebrew can also be downloaded from the mentioned App Store, but we still want to reproduce it separately. We are talking about NX-Shell, a file manager that allows you to access the internal microSD card directly from the Nintendo Switch. The homebrew is already very mature and in a few clicks, you can delete, copy, move or rename files and folders. In addition, an MP3 player, a PDF reader and an FTP client are on board!

Retro fans must install RetroArch. It's an application with which you can revive old classics. RetroArch emulates the following consoles: GameBoy Advance (GBA), Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), PlayStation 1 (PS1), Nintendo 64 (N64)

How do I know if my Nintendo Switch is banned?

If you receive the error message 2124-4007 when you use the Nintendo Online service, your console has been banned. After the ban, it is no longer possible to visit the Nintendo eShop or use online multiplayer. Starting today, the ban cannot be reversed. Although a spell is not really nice, it is, of course, possible to play all your offline games and local multiplayer.

The tutorial will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of EmuNAND CFW programs. What is it exactly?

An emuNAND can be considered as using two separate operating systems on the Nintendo Switch. Both systems can operate completely independently and independently of each other. For example, you can use two different firmware versions on a switch (for example SXOS 6.2.0 and Original Firmware 8.1).

What benefit do I have to this? What brings me everything?

Basically, it's about protecting yourself from spells on Nintendo by using the CFW completely separate from the original firmware. While an operating system (EmuNAND) is used for all CFW tasks, one leaves the other system entirely clean and uses only the original software. Thus, in the worst case, only one operating system is banned and the other is kept.

How to determine which custom firmware is currently selected on the ROM loader and how to change it?

At the front of the RCM loader, there is a key under the sign (plus sign). If you press this button once, the light will come on next to it.

  • If the LED is blue, CFW Atmosphere is selected.
  • If the light is green, the ReiNX CFW is selected
  • If the LED is red, the SXOS CFW is selectedé

If you want to change the selected CFW, you must hold down the + key until the desired CFW color lights up.

I followed the steps, but my Nintendo Switch stays black when starting or starting with ROM loader. What can I do?

First, you need to check if the RCM clip is at the bottom of the right Joy-Con track. Also check if you have chosen the correct firmware on the RCM loader (blue = atmosphere, green = ReiNX, red = SXOS). It is also a good idea to press the power button on the Nintendo Switch for at least 15 seconds to make sure the console is completely off. Then you can follow the tutorial from step 6 again (Guide Part 1).
If the Nintendo Switch still does not start in the desired CFW file, check the inserted microSD card. The folder structure should look like this:

Your Nintendo Switch will now have to start in the chosen CFW. If that still does not work, it's a good idea to try another microSD card, as it is very likely to have a default or formatting error.

Our recommendation:
