However, we have seen how Team Xecuter (responsible for the CFW SX OS of the Switch and old known for their work on Xbox 360) has announced that soon the new versions will be hackable, including Switch Lite, from which they have just shown a video with the new advances, as we bring you next.
Where we come from?
Before we begin to rename the latest news regarding Mariko plates, we will make a small review of where we came from. So far, we had a vulnerability to run unsigned code on our Nintendo Switch (nothing from Switch Lite). This, which is based on the name of Fusee-Gele, makes use of a flaw in the design of the custom Nvidia Tegra X1 that equipped the console. Making contact on the right Joy-Con rail, while pressing a combination of buttons, we entered the RCM mode, from which a Payload was injected from a Dondle that connected to the USB Type-C port of the console.
Once this Payload was executed, we could already execute unsigned code, especially custom firmware, that were housed in the console's microSD memory card, without having a permanent installation in it. Undoubtedly, one of the most active teams in the Switch scene (and now Switch Lite), is Team Xecuter, responsible for the SX OS payment CFW, which are the ones that now seem to have discovered (or at least exploited) a new vulnerability, which would affect all existing Nintendo Switch boards. Remember that, with the RCM method, only consoles manufactured before June 2018 are compatible, for the rest we must wait for this new method to be released.
Nintendo Switch Lite running SX OS
Therefore, it is expected that this news has raised so much stir. In the video released by the development team itself, you can see how SX OS is running, Team Xecuter version 3 (which has not yet been released to the public), in a Switch Lite, equipped with the new Nvidia processor revision . Team Xecuter shows in great detail both the beginning of it, executing the Payload without the need for a dongle as previously was an indispensable condition, as well as running the game Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido.
Not too many details have been given regarding the operation of this new hack, although it has been commented that it will not be as easy to execute as the previous version. Both in classic Switch and in Switch Lite it will be necessary to open the console to install the device responsible for executing the Payload (something that reminds a lot of the Reset Glitch Hack of the Xbox 360, a few years ago). While the classic Switch hack will not require welding, it seems that its Lite version does, although we will not know the latter until it is time to launch.
What we do know is that we will have it among us quite soon, in the first quarter of 2020, so it could be polished more before the time of launch. One negative thing about this hack is the fact of having to open the console and modify the hardware, since in the previous version the modification had a temporary nature, without having to affect the internal components of the console.
What can we do with a hacked console?
In the case of the Nintendo Switch (and Switch Lite), with its hybrid console concept, a huge range of possibilities opens up. One of them could be to run retro platform games, thus solving the small amount of classic games with which Nintendo has pleased Nintendo Switch Online users. In addition to this, we can execute content created by the community, in the form of games or applications, which would make our experience with the console even more complete.
In addition to this, the Nintendo Switch scene has enabled the installation of other operating systems on the console, such as different versions of Linux, as well as Android, being remarkably functional (especially Android), giving us what could be considered practically a computer pocket, being able to run programs such as Dolphin (Gamecube and Wii emulator) or PPSSPP in Google's operating system, quite solvent.
Counting the days to hack the Switch Lite ...
As we can see, the possibilities outside of piracy are enormous, so we hope that in May the future news about this new hack, which could be a rebound in the sales of the console if it is not particularly difficult for the final user.
