FAQ: Nintendo Switch& 3DS Hacking Guides in 2020

Here we will list some faqs for Nintendo Switch and 3DS hacking guide, hope it can help you to know more about hacking.

FAQ about Nintendo Switch Hacking

Q: I am on the latest system version. Is my device hackable?

A: Yes. All currently released Switches will eventually be hackable with Fusée Gelée. See ktemkin’s Fusée Gelée FAQ for more information.

Q: How risky is hacking my console?

A: Bricking via simply running the Homebrew Launcher or Fusée Gelée is highly unlikely. However, modifying System savedata and highly privileged exploits like Fusée Gelée can easily brick your system if done incorrectly. Only run PegaSwitch scripts, Homebrew Launcher NROs, and especially Fusée Gelée payloads from trusted sources! Running untrusted homebrew payloads has the potential to brick your console permanently.

Q: Can I do this with a 4GB (or smaller) SD card?

A: This is possible if all you want to do is run the Homebrew Launcher; however, an SD card of at least 64GB is required if running Custom Firmware like the upcoming Atmosphère, as a Switch emuNAND will take up 32GB.

Q: My Switch claims I need a System Update to use my SD card, can I get around this?

A: Yes; SD cards above 32GB come formatted as exFAT by default, and the Switch cannot use exFAT cards without installing the exFAT System Update. Unfortunately, if you are not on the latest firmware you will not be able to install this update independently of updating the actual device firmware. You can get around this by using a tool like guiformat to format the SD card as FAT32.

Q: Does my switch support Fusee Gelee/Atmosphere:

A: All Switches support this, all of them. No seriously, stop asking the answer is yes. We will let you know if it changes

Q: What if my switch is patched?

A: If your switch is patched and on 4.1 or below you can use Pegascape. If it's on 5.0.0-7.1.0 You will need to wait. If it's on 8.0.0 or higher, you need to use the team xecuter new product.

Q: What firmwares can I install homebrew on?

A: Homebrew can be installed on Nintendo Switch system version 6.2 and below.
Q: I’m on x.y.z but my new gamecart for botw/xenoblade/etc needs to update to a higher version what should I do?

A: You have a few options.
  • Do a fuseless upgrade, this guide.
  • Find a gamecart of lower version out in the wild (buy another copy and see if it's cart 000 or 001, etc.)
  • Find a gamecart with the appropriate update and try to update through that
  • Update to the latest Firmware (Please no just wait it'll be worth it)
  • Have patience and wait for CFW to make things better
If you're not sure what FW a game requires you can reference this list --> List Games Required Firmware Version

FAQ of Nintendo 3DS Hacking guide

Q: How do I update Luma3DS?

A: Use Luma3DS Updater

Q: Can I run awesome homebrew and emulators with this?

A: Yes! Custom Firmware not only enables the Homebrew Launcher, but it also will give you hacks on all versions, which means you keep it forever, even with updates.

Q: Can I use this to play games from other regions?

A: Luma3DS supports Region Free patches, which enables users to install games from any region without any extra modification or steps.

Q: Can I play these backups online, or is Nintendo going to send goons after me?

A: For the most part, you can play online without fear of being banned. There are only two exceptions:
  • Do not play modded/hacked games online (including hacked saves)
  • Do not play unreleased games online
The current theory is that Nintendo can't even tell whether or not your device has been hacked, but they can tell if you're playing a hacked ROM/save or if you're playing a game before it has gone on sale. Avoid those things and you should be fine (for now).

Q: What about DS games?

A: There is a method for loading DS ROMs from the SD card, but it is unreliable and compatibility is very poor. That method is relatively new and may get better, but at this time the only good way to play DS games is with a DS flashcart. Luckily they're cheap. You can get one for less than $20 at any number of sketchy online shops.
