True to their statements of support, Nintendo has pushed out a new firmware updated for their ailing 3DS line of consoles.
That said, it seems that not much has changed in this latest update for the console. The patch notes are rather short, stating only that there have been “Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience”. What exactly these improvements and changes are was not explained.
The bare nature of this latest patch for the 3DS joins mounting evidence that despite what Nintendo claims, the 3DS may soon be retiring from the console space after its many years on the market. Until then, we will be sure to bring the latest updates on the status of the 3DS and its variants.
The Nintendo 3DS will not have many new games this year (Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth will be released on June 4), but Nintendo continues to update it. Thus, the 3DS family of consoles including the New Nintendo 3DS, the New Nintendo 3DS XL, the New Nintendo 2DS XL, the Nintendo 3DS, the Nintendo 3DS XL and the Nintendo 2DS receives today an update that makes them pass in version 11.10.0-43.

As always the update is theoretically not mandatory unless you want to continue using the online services of the console and go to the eShop. Otherwise, if the update is not offered automatically, you can launch it from the console settings.
